Distant Butte II
16 x 19" inches
watercolor and black conte" on paper on
canvas
dry mount, boxed black metal frame
$350.00 USD
The view is from inside a mini-van traveling
one of the rez roads (Pine Ridge, SD.) The
silhouette frame of the picture is of the
window, side panel, and quarter profile of my
daughter that make up four distinct lines in
framing the composition.
The frame angle suggests motion and the
temporary which expresses my own rez
experiences - allusive and transient. Within
the picture plane I placed the semi-blurred
vista to punctuate the ever changing, fleeting
views that occur.
The white watercolor paper symbolizes
tanned buffalo hide in making a tipi, the
canvas refers to later military issue material
for making tipis.
